07 May LEADER OF THE PACK
Samantha Hutchinson & Kylar Loussikian – The Age – Thursday 07 May
There’s a “new school year” feel and an air of anticipation in electorate offices around the country as MPs prepare to return to Canberra for sitting week beginning next Tuesday.
Some representatives are more excited than others. Just ask Victorian senator James Patersonand members of the Parliamentary Friends of Democracy, the bipartisan interest group started by MPs sharing a belief Australia should push back on China.
As The Age revealed, the group – which has a Wolverine for its mascot, and is identified by a distinctive claw mark appearing on stickers around Parliament – has admitted new members over the COVID-19 shutdown period. Newbies believed to include Nationals senator Matt Canavan and South Australian senator Alex Antic will be inducted next week.
It’s a simple process, Paterson said. “I’ve printed off new stickers to hand out.”
