Morrison government delivers over $5.2 million to the Jewish community for Safety Grants
The Morrison government’s Community Safety Grants program is delivering $5,226,308.55 for community organisations in the Macnamara and Goldstein electorates. The program provides funds to address criminal and anti-social behaviour through the implementation of crime prevention and security initiatives, such as CCTV and enhanced lighting.
The funding for practical security solutions will help the local Jewish community enjoy the freedom to practice their faith in a safe and secure environment.
Patron Senator for Macnamara James Paterson is pleased to announce the successful grant recipients on behalf of the Morrison government.
“The Community Safety Grants program is an integral part of the Morrison government’s commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of religious groups in a time of increasingly antagonistic and anti-social behaviour towards religious communities. Sadly, we know the Jewish community faces growing anti-Semitism around the world and Australia is not immune.”
Mr. Paterson is confident that the funding will provide practical safety solutions for the community.
“I’m so pleased the Morrison government is delivering over $5 million to Jewish community organisations in Victoria. This money will help fund practical security solutions developed by the Jewish community to protect religious and cultural institutions.”
A total of 12 applications in the Macnamara and Goldstein electorates were successful. The successful applicants include the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation, Yeshivah-Beth Rivkah Schools, Mizrachi Nominees, Gandel Besen House, Cheder Levi Yitzch Inc, Beth Weizmann Community Centre, Jewish Museum of Australia, Caulfield Hebrew Congregation, Emmy Monash Aged Care, Hamerkaz Shelanu, Lamdeni School, and Leibler Yavneh College.
Liberal Member for Goldstein Tim Wilson MP said, “When Australians of faith are harassed, the foundations of our free society are also threatened. These funds are crucial in ensuring the safety and security of our local Jewish community.”
State Liberal Member for Caulfield David Southwick MP said, “This significant investment by the Morrison government will go a long way to supporting the safety and security of our local Jewish community.”
All organisations have received substantial funding to install CCTV cameras, deterrence measures, improved lighting, boom gate and fencing solutions, as well as upgraded intercom and alarm interfaces.
